Kitchen Renovation Product Sourcing

When a lot of people think about home renovations, I would guess the majority think about the finished product and how beautiful it’s going to be. I know that’s what I concentrate on and it is what gets me jazzed any time I’m working on an interior design project.

What I think a lot of people might forget is all of the decision making along the way. Do you buy dark grout or light grout? What shade would you like? Would you like an eggshell finish or matte finish? What style of lighting or backsplash are you leaning towards?

There are a lot of decisions that go into a renovation project. You just have to ride the wave of excitement and overwhelming feelings as they come. It’s all part of the process and can be a blast while also being a learning opportunity.

Product Sourcing

As I work through some of my fun kitchen product selections, I wanted to share the vibes I’m leaning into hard. Think modernized light fixtures mixed with natural ceramic tile, updated appliances and timeless hardware. It’s very important to me to mix in different style elements together so that it is not too trend forward and still fits the home’s overall aesthetic. Think 1920’s with a modern twist.

Check out some of my favorite products I’m digging right now. I will be narrowing down final selections based on product reviews, pricing and shipment dates, but am hoping to have some of these beauties in hand over the next couple of months. You may just happen to see them getting installed in the near future, so keep your eyes peeled!

LIGHTING:

Outside of any statements that may be made with kitchen countertops, the lighting in a kitchen sets the trend tone in my opinion and is my #2 most important selection. Depending on whether you want to lean more timeless, modern, bohemian, or a number of other styles can dictate the mood of your kitchen. I look at lighting similarly to furniture. It’s an investment that can be switched out, but plays a key role in setting the style you’re going for in a kitchen.

CABINET HARDWARE:

With hardware, the main focus for me isn’t necessarily getting the right shape, instead it’s focusing on the right color hue. Many different companies have different “colors” of golds and brasses, so finding an option I like is step one. From there, I then make sure they come in varying sizes and shapes to select my assortment. I’m loving Rejuvenations collection, but am also dappling through a couple of others because gold doesn’t always photograph well and may look better in person (plus save me a few pennies if you know what I mean).

APPLIANCES:

Appliances have been a big transition for me mentally coming from an investment to a single family home. Previously, I was always on the hunt for a highly reviewed kitchen appliance that was on sale or could be picked up at a scratch and dent store. Now, I’m looking for functionality, resistance, ease, style and strong reviews. Pricing is weighing a bit less than in the past because I look at appliances as a true investment in the property.

TILE:

One of my favorite DIY’s that anyone can tackle. With the new vibe I’m going for at my Tangletown 2-story, I’m leaning into a more authentic, organic look when it comes to stone and tile. By leaning into product options that show inconsistencies in pattern and finish, it brings in an elevated finish that feels fresh and true to the material. I will be leveraging ceramic tile to play off of the veining of my countertops in order to bring a fun cohesion between the two.

KITCHEN SINK:

Last but not least, I’m going hard for a farmhouse sink! I’ve toyed with undermount and stainless steel sinks in the past, but now it’s time to try something new. I’m in love with the clean lines a white farmhouse sink can add to a kitchen, and am wanting to focus on straight edges vs. curved. This helps give it a bit of a modern twist, while still staying neutral.

Cheers!
