Another Trip Around the Sun | Birthday Reflection
Imposter syndrome is real, friends.
I recently had a birthday, and I would love to say that it was a fantastic day, but honestly…I don’t really love my birthday. You see, my birthday is always around Thanksgiving. Ever since I was little, it felt like my birthday was a bit overlooked and that the holiday took the front seat. Whether it be family or friends, everyone was busy with annual holiday plans and my birthday gets "fit in" where it can.
Because of this, my birthday (outside of Thanksgiving day) tends to be quite a bit of alone time where I reflect on what didn’t work the last year of my life. Where I feel I failed. What I lacked the courage to change. What areas of my life I’ve wanted more from, but haven’t been able to make happen. I reflect on another year passing me by, and not always on everything I have accomplished.
NOW YOU MIGHT BE ASKING YOURSELF…
Why are you sharing this with me, Jen? It’s because this time of year, around the holidays, can be tough for many. With the closing of another year and lots of time with family/friends, you might be finding yourself in a similar position – sitting back and analyzing what everyone else is showcasing on their highlight reels on Instagram and telling yourself everyone else has it better than you.
And that’s just not true. Comparing yourself to what others have is a grueling battle that is going to be a losing game time and time again. Instead, I think it’s healthy for us each to take some time to isolate and ask ourselves what do we want vs. what do others have that we don’t?
quality over quantity
What I have found is that the saying quality over quantity is truer than ever. Whether it be success in work, reflection of friendships and relationships, the definition of home for me, and so much more – this year I truly have come to the realization of the importance of quality of life vs. what society tries to mold us to believe about quantity.
I believe that is why I have been making a pivot over the last few years to try and help others more. I’ve found a passion in educating and mentoring those that are on a similar journey to my own. Whether it be small business ownership, financial strategizing, creating passive income streams, or investing in real estate, it lights me up to help others on their financial journeys. I am so grateful for the lives I’ve been able to impact in a positive way and seriously cannot wait to help more.
LIVING WITH GRATITUDE
My gratitude for those that have allowed me to give back and share a bit of my knowledge with, goes leaps and bounds beyond any bank account or success metric. I no longer feel the need to chase after what society tells me success looks like. Instead, a slower life, filled with joy, wellness, love, and gratitude is one I’m striving for this next year around the sun.
And believe me when I say this…if you’re making a pivot and trying something new, imposter syndrome will creep in. But that’s not what’s important. What’s important is to trust in yourself and build a life that lights you up. Share your unique gift with the world and keep dreaming up a life by design.
I love you all and wish you all the best!
Jen
