Fitness Accountability - Holly J Fitness

I know I’m not alone when I say…COVID has made it tough to stay motivated and active. That’s why I’m super excited to introduce Holly, from Holly J Fitness!

Holly is a Twin Cities personal trainer. She is passionate about helping others discover fun in fitness, gain confidence, and build lasting habits, as well as other things such as her love for dogs. She believes exercise and nutrition do wonderful things for the mind, body and soul, and hopes to inspire the community to feel the same way.

Holly is on the Jen McFadyen blog today to share some tips and tricks around movement accountability and easing back into a routine. And then next week, you might even see a couple exercises pop up on the blog. Be sure to stay tuned!

Without further ado…

“Time is one of the biggest assets we are finding that we have during quarantine, so make it a priority to get in some type of movement every day. The biggest way to hold yourself accountable to exercise would be to simply schedule it on your calendar! And remember, committing to a workout doesn't mean you need to take hours out of your day. You can get an efficient workout done in 30 minutes. You can even break up your workout if you aren't able to find one time to get everything done!”

Things that may be standing in your way of reaching your fitness goals:

1

Lack of Motivation

“Find a workout buddy and do workouts together via Facetime or Zoom. Better yet, you could meet up at a park. (6 ft away of course).

Create goals you want to work towards.”

2

Lack of Equipment

“No equipment at home? Get outside! Go for a hike, walk, run, bike, etc.

Follow fitness accounts on social media to supplement bodyweight workouts into your day. There are plenty!”

3

Lack of Knowledge

“Not sure what to do for a workout? Lucky for you, there are now plenty of “at home” workouts to try on Instagram, YouTube and blogs. Try out a few and find the style of workout you enjoy. This will make you more likely to carve out time into your weekly routine and find success!”

Starting is the hardest part

Time to get up and move!

“Another important thing to keep in mind is to ease your way back into the gym. (Especially if you haven’t been doing much during quarantine.

For many - getting STARTED on your fitness journey is the hardest part. My advice is to start small. Pick ONE thing you want to focus on, engrave this into your routine and build from there.

So, what’s something you could do that’s small? Here are a few ideas:

  • Create a step goal and hit it - even if your goal is to hit it 3-4x/wk

  • Find a group class and set a goal for how often you would like to attend

  • Lift something heavy 1x week

  • Take your dog for a walk every day

  • Stretch 3x week

The options are endless! Whether or not you were consistent with your workout routine during quarantine, your gym routine will likely look a little different. Take your time, and ease back into it. Don’t feel like you have to use every machine and hit every muscle in your first workout back!

Again these are just ideas and will look differently for everyone! We are all at different phases in fitness and health, and that’s perfectly okay.
