Leaving On a Jet Plane: COVID Travel Edition

Taking a Mental Break From the Grind

Earlier this week I talked a lot about setting boundaries, focusing on yourself, and ensuring that you make time to unwind. Well, what better way to do that then by taking a VACATION?!

Now that I’m done with my second COVID shot (thank god that’s over…I got SO sick), I am itching to get back to traveling. It’s like a lifeline to me and brings me SO much joy. By experiencing new people, places, sites, and smells, I automatically find my subconscious rhythm and can begin to slow down. The best way I can explain it, is if you can imagine how someone would feel after a week at a yoga retreat doing stretches and breathing techniques.

Pre-COVID Travel

Anyways…in the past, I would travel a minimum of 1-2x per year internationally, and then a handful of times domestically to see family in friends. But like most people, when COVID hit that put a hault on my travel plans. On top of that, work doesn’t always “allow” me to leave for long stretches at a time. You know, having to host open houses and show properties generally involves physically being in person instead of virtual.

Well, enough is enough. This girl is taking a little me time, hopping on a plane, and is going to be soak up some much needed sun in a few short months. (Remind me to get a spray tan before I go). When exactly will I be taking this little adventure? I’m not sure. That’s the great thing though. Because I’m allowing myself this freedom to go somewhere, anywhere, I’m perusing the world wide web for fun places to visit, and checking out who’s offering good airfare. You didn’t think my frugal side only applied to real estate investing did you? There are so many COVID travel deals going on right now because of the reduced demand, that this penny pincher will be strategically playing it to her advantage. (Yes, I’m talking in the third person because I’m that excited)!

Travel Sale Flight Options

In case you are in need of some inspiration yourself, I’ve pulled together a list of some fantastic places to visit, that are low cost flights, and relatively decent travel times for the domestic U.S. The travel sale prices right now are amazing and need to be taken full advantage of if you are vaccinated and feeling up to it. Who knows, maybe I’ll see you there!

  • Iceland - September 29 - October 5 | $405

  • St. Thomas - July 13-20 | $405

  • Fort Lauderdale - June 1-6 | $66

  • Seattle - June 4-7 | $156

  • Puerto Rico - June 2-9 | $222

  • Palm Springs - September 23-30 | $288

  • Vancouver - July 26 - August 3 | $311

  • Aruba - September 3-11 | $551

  • New York City - June 3-7 | $148

  • Cancun - August 18-24 | $286

  • St. John’s Canada - August 22-26 | $554

What type of traveler are you? Do you prefer to relax and unwind, staying put in one spot? Or are you the type that likes to have a fully planned itinerary ready to go, so that you don’t miss any fun adventures? I’m typically the latter but I may go in-between a bit on this trip. I’m thinking a good mix of hiking, food and swimming (hint, hint) will be just what the doctor ordered. Who knows, by then I might have planned an entire itinerary merely from excitement after not traveling for over 14 months.

Any guesses on where I end up? I’ll give you a hint….I would not be able to drive there.
