Fall 2024 Paint Trends to Transform Your Space

The magic of a little bit of paint never ceases to amaze me. It's by far one of the best ways to refresh your home, whether on a budget and just looking to make a fun change or wanting to go extravagant by adding in texturing walls and contrast. No matter what you're in the mood for, a little paint can go a long way.

What I love about this season’s paint trends is that they are taking their cues from Mother Nature's color palette while adding some unexpected twists into the mix. Whether you're planning a full room makeover or just want to refresh an accent wall, here's what's making waves in the world of interior paint this season.

EARTHY MINIMALISM 2.0

Gone are the days of stark minimalism! This fall season, we're seeing an emphasis on warm, grounded tones that bring a warm and inviting emphasis without sacrificing sophistication. Think rich terracottas, soft clay tones, and muted sage greens. These colors create a perfect backdrop for both modern and traditional furnishings while maintaining that coveted sense of calm we all seek at home.

Be sure to check out these tones if you're looking to tackle a tile project as well! Whether tiling a shower surround, or instaling a terracotta checkered floor, I am absolutely loving this vibe everywhere I see it!

MOODY BLUE TAKES CENTER STAGE

Navy is stepping aside to make room for its more nuanced cousins. Stormy slate blues and deep mineral tones are emerging as the new neutrals of choice. These sophisticated shades work beautifully in home offices and bedrooms, offering a sense of depth without overwhelming the space.

When I go for a more moody and dark paint choice, I love to incorporate it into smaller spaces where it can make a big impact. Think mudrooms, offices, bathrooms, and more! When a smaller space has less room to be furnished with a personalized touch, going big on a strong paint color can be just the key to giving it the personality you're looking for.

THE NEW NEUTRALS

Forget basic beige- 2024's fall neutrals are anything but boring. We're seeing complex undertones in warm grays, subtle lavenders, and gentle browns that shift beautifully as natural light changes throughout the day. These versatile shades create the perfect foundation for seasonal decor changes.

If you know me you know I'm here for ALL the gentle browns! It's been so fun to see neutrals being used in various techniques, such as limewashing, to take on a whole different element and mood. I'm fascinated with what a bit of creativity can bring out in such simple, neutral colors, and I am excited to see how this trend unfolds.

UNEXPECTED COLOR COMBINATIONS

This fall's most daring trend? Unconventional color pairings. Designers are loving combinations like:

  • Mushroom gray with deep aubergine

  • Burnished gold with forest green

  • Warm caramel with dusty blue

SUSTAINABLE CHOICES

More than ever, homeowners are prioritizing eco-friendly paint options, and I couldn't be more happy! Low-VOC paints (paints that contain reduced levels of volatile organic compounds) and natural paint formulations are becoming the standard rather than the exception. Manufacturers are responding to this new demand with innovative, environmentally conscious options, and I hope to see this trend continue to grow.

TIPS FOR INCORPORATING THESE TRENDS

If you're ever nervous about trying out a new paint color In your home, here are a few tricks that I like to lean on. They not only help me save myself from decision fatigue with the million and one paint color options out there, but these tips also help me ease into a painting project without feeling like I need to commit fully upfront.

  • Start small with an accent wall to test out bolder colors

  • Consider the room's natural light when selecting your shade - it's wise to try the paint color on each wall depending on how the light exposure

  • Don't forget to sample! Colors can look dramatically different in your space versus online or in-store

  • Think about your existing furnishings and how new paint colors will complement them

Remember, while trends inspire, the best color choice is one that makes you feel at home. These fall trends offer plenty of options to explore while remaining timeless enough to carry you through many seasons to come!

Happy decorating!
